While the Trump Administration is clearly signaling its desire to end the stand-off by diplomatic means, it has not scaled back on efforts to form a global coalition that will back the United States in case of an all-out conflagration.
Spearheading this/these efforts is U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who only yesterday visited both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. According to the Saudi SPA state news agency, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz and Secretary Pompeo “discussed regional and international developments at their meeting in the (Kingdom’s) city of Jeddah.” That said, no specific details were provided on the contents of their discussions.
