According to various reports, US President Elect Donald Trump plans to move ahead with his plan to move the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, regardless of criticism from Arab nations. According to a report on CNN, which cited unnamed Israeli officials as speculating that the move could be announced as early as the 24th of May, which is when Israel celebrates ‘Jerusalem Day’ that marks the reunification of the city following the 1967 war. The report prompted the Palestinian leadership in Ramallah to call upon all Muslims in the Middle East to protest this weekend against the Trump administration’s intention to move the US embassy to Jerusalem. Mohammed Shtayyeh, a senior Palestinian Authority official, called last night to hold protest prayers on Friday at all the mosques and to ring church bells as well. He said that moving the embassy to Jerusalem would put an end to the two-state solution, and warned that the Palestinians would weigh the idea of withdrawing their recognition of the State of Israel.
