Earlier in the evening, a shell fired from a Syrian tank exploded on the Israeli side of the Golan Heights security fence. The IDF said the shell exploded in an open area, causing no injuries or damage. In response to the shell, that according to IDF official was not intentionally fired at Israel but rather spillover from the fighting near the border, Israel attacked a Syrian army post. The official stressed that Israel views the government of Bashar Assad as solely responsible to any attacks emanating from Syria, and will respond to any violations against Israel’s sovereignty. According to the Lebanese TV network ‘Al Mayadeen’, who quoted a Syrian official, “the Israeli attack was done using a helicopter that launched a missile from Israeli territory toward a Syrian military structure in the city of Quneitra.” The Syrian official further stated that the army post that was targeted was facing posts of the al-Qaida affiliated terror group Jabhat al-Nusra. No injuries were reported among Syrian troops.
