A terror attack was averted in Jerusalem on Saturday, when an Islamist- Arab attempted to perpetrate a stabbing attack near the Temple Mount.
According to Israel Police Commander of the Old City, Haim Shmueli, the terrorist ran with a knife in his hand toward the Lion’s Gate entrance of the holy compound. Border Guards and police officers immediately issued orders for the assailant to halt, and were “forced to neutralize him by opening fire” when those orders were ignored.
A female pedestrian sustained light injuries from shrapnel during the incident and transferred to a Jerusalem hospital for further treatment.
While the terrorist’s identity is still being investigated, Commander Shmueli said area was reopened and returned to normalcy after a security assessment indicated that the assailant acted alone.
