Air workers in the rebel-held eastern part of the city claim that the last available food rations were running out, as the quarter of a million-people besieged in the Syrian city entered what is expected to be a cruel winter. “The report we have now, from within east Aleppo is that, the last food rations are being distributed as we speak. There will not be more to distribute next week. Some families have not had any distributions, families in need of relief have not had any distributions now for several weeks already,” said Egeland stating he was hopeful of a deal on a four-part humanitarian plan the United Nations sent to all parties to the conflict several days ago. The plan covers delivery of food and medical supplies, medical evacuations and access for health workers.
“I do believe we will be able to avert mass hunger this winter. I think we will be able to get both supplies in and evacuations out and none of the two should be conditioned on the other.” / “We are in continuous contact with Russian diplomats and military and it is my clear impression that they are willing to continue pause in air operations and that they are actively looking at and I really hope to have soon green light for our four humanitarian initiatives as part of this larger one,” said Egeland Since the beginning of the conflict in Syria, more than half a million people were killed, and according to humanitarian agencies some 11 million people displaced – most of whom are living in dire conditions.
