The chief of the Russian military’s general staff, Valery Gerasimov, met his Turkish counterpart in Ankara for talks on Syria and military cooperation between the two countries. The meeting, according to Turkish officials, reflects a warming of ties in the past few weeks.
Relations hit a low last November, when Turkey downed a Russian fighter-jet near the Syrian border. But ties between the two countries were largely restored last month, following a meeting between Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in the city of Saint Petersburg.
