Russia investigates highly-sophisticated drone attack against its bases in Syria

The Russian Defense Ministry said it was investigating a recent drone attack against Russian bases in the war-torn-country. The Ministry claimed that no injuries or damage were reported in the attack, which involved thirteen armed drones bombarding the Russian Hmeymim air base and the Tartus naval base in Western Syria. Russian Major General Alexander Novikov said, the investigation into the attack aims to identify the country that manufactured the drones used by militants in the attack, as the unmanned aerial vehicles and the explosives it carried were highly-sophisticated.

While initial reports claimed the drone attack by Islamist militants managed to destroy several Russian fighter-jets, the Russian Defense Ministry said its aerospace reconnaissance systems detected all of the targets at a safe distance from the Russian bases, eliminating seven of the drones, while using a sophisticated program to overtake control of the remaining six drones mid-air.
