Rhinoceros born in Israeli Safari park

A 23-year-old square-lipped-white-rhinoceros called Tanda from Israel’s safari park near Tel Aviv, gave birth to a male rhino. According to the Safari, Tanda was brought to the park some 13 years ago for breeding as a main goal.

“This is the 28th birth of rhinos at the safari here in Ramat Gan, our zoo has been breaking all records in rhino birth in recent years, due to our very excellent condition which are very like the conditions that they have in Africa. So Tanda, here this is her first baby, (it) was born just few days ago. She is an excellent and experienced mother so she knows exactly what to do, she is keeping him away and she is nursing him and taking very good care of him.” / “So rhino are highly endangered animals, they are being hunted and there numbers are very rapidly declining so it could be that not too long from now the only place that we could see real live rhinos are in zoos so this is why every birth is very important not just to us but for the entire species,” said Gali Berkovitch, Enrichment coordinator and animal trainer.

The Ramat Gan Safari Park says it is one of the leading places in the world for nurturing the endangered species thanks to Israel’s climate and the zoo’s conditions that closely emulate the natural habitat of the rhinoceros in Africa.
