The U.S. Navy has accused the Islamic Revolutionary Guards of acting in a “dangerous and provocative” manner in the Persian Gulf.
The referred to incident occurred yesterday, when eleven naval vessels belonging to the Revolutionary Guards, came dangerously close to six U.S. Navy and Coast Guard ships in the strategic waterway. At one point, the Iranian vessels came within less than 10 meters of the U.S. Coast Guard, triggering several warning shots in addition to other methods of deterrence. The incident lasted for about an hour.
According to a statement made by the U.S. Navy’s Bahrain-based 5th Fleet “The dangerous and provocative actions increased the risk of miscalculation and collision… and were not in accordance with the obligation under international law to act with due regard for the safety of other vessels in the area.”
There was no immediate response by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards to TV7’s request for comment.
