Palestinian Islamists have fired a rocket last night from the Gaza Strip toward Israel’s southern communities. The rocket exploded in an open area of the Sha’ar Hanegev regional council. No injuries or damage was reported. In response to the rocket fire, the IDF Spokesperson’s unit said that the Israeli Air Force targeted military infrastructure belonging to the Islamist Hamas organization, which controls the Palestinian enclave.
Even though a Salafist organization, which is linked to the Islamic State, claimed responsibility for the rocket fire; the IDF said it views Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, as solely responsible for any attacks emanating from its territory. Hamas warned Israel not to continue with its dangerous escalation in the Gaza Strip and said that it must bear, what Hamas termed as “the consequences of its policy and of its stupid actions.”
