The new US ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, arrived in the country yesterday, ahead of a scheduled meeting with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, during which the new American diplomat is expected to present his credentials to allow him to take up his official role. Upon arriving in Israel, ambassador Friedman immediately travelled to Jerusalem to pay a visit to the Western Wall, where he recited prayers from the book of Psalms together with a group of rabbis. Ambassador Friedman, who is a longtime friend of President Donald Trump, has on several occasions vowed to work tirelessly to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a promise also voiced by Trump during his election campaign. Israel says all of Jerusalem is its eternal and indivisible capital, a position not yet recognized by the international community.
