New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed into law legislation targeting the boycott movement BDS, which stands for ‘Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions’. The legislation prohibits any public body in the State to enter into business relationships with any-body that is actively boycotting the state of Israel or even cooperates with the anti-Israeli BDS movement. The State of New Jersey has an annual trade of about 1.3 billion dollars with Israel. Some 6% of the state’s population, which amounts to about half a million people, are Jewish. The anti-boycott legislation in New Jersey comes three months after New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a similar administrative order, which requires the state to ban any organization that participates in the boycott of Israel.
