Moscow awaits Washington’s response to cooperate in Syria

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow was hopeful that Washington would indeed consider the implementation of a cooperation mechanism in Syria, that would aim at eradicating terrorist organizations while advancing a true peace agreement to the war-torn-country.

“We have said what we are ready to talk about. And we are waiting for clarification from Washington. We are ready to review any other proposals on cooperation in Syria. And we hope that as the President of the United States Donald Trump said and as the official representative of the White House said, the United States are interested in cooperation with us on Syrian peace settlement,” said Lavrov.

At a news conference in Moscow, Lavrov also said that the U.S. proposal about creation of the so-called safe areas in Syria, that would provide refugees with a safe-haven from the raging battles across the country, must be first agreed upon by the Syrian government.
