Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani announced that the United States had failed to undermine the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, primarily known as the Iranian nuclear agreement, and hailed the accord as a “long-lasting victory for the Islamic Republic.” The Iranian declaration of victory came after President Donald Trump agreed on Friday to waive sanctions against Tehran for the last time, in what the American leader said would provide the United States and European allies a final chance to amend the agreement. While the United States demands a clear amendment to the deal, Iran emphasized that the agreement is not re-negotiable and vowed to stick to the accord as long as the other signatories, Washington included, respect the agreed upon terms.
