U.S. to continue efforts in Syria, despite planed withdraw

The French ambassador to the United Nations informed the U.N. Security Council that it would closely monitor the anticipated withdrawal of the United States from Syria, while ensuring very carefully that the security of all U.S. partners be preserved, including the Syrian Democratic Forces.  Francois Delattre, the French Ambassador to the United Nations stated “In the upcoming week France will be ensuring very carefully that the security of all U.S. partners be ensured, including the Syrian Democratic Forces. It is important for the United States to take into account the protection of the people in the north east of Syria and the stability of this area to make sure that we avoid any new humanitarian tragedy or any resurgence of terrorism.” During a meeting of the council on Syria, the United States voiced its continued commitment to the permanent destruction of the Islamic State, while vowing to continue to apply unprecedented pressure, to force the withdrawal of Iranian-backed forces from the war-torn-country. Rodney Hunter, the Political Coordinator to the U.S. Mission at the U.N. reassured, “The United States remains committed to the permanent destruction of ISIS and other terrorist groups in Syria and around the world. As we have said, we will use all instruments of our national power to press for a withdrawal of Iranian-backed forces.”
