Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernández declared his intention to relocate his country’s Embassy in Israel from the city of Rishon LeTsiyon to Jerusalem.
The leader of the Central American nation made the announcement following a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday. In a statement published on his official Twitter account, Hernández revealed that the two “agree to open embassies in Teguciaglpa and Jerusalem respectively,” with the hope of taking “this historic step before the end of the year.”
In a joint statement with President Hernández, Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed “appreciation for the authentic friendship and steadfast support Israel has received from Honduras,” and reiterated Jerusalem’s “commitment to strengthen this partnership through development, cooperation, tourism, investment, technology, agriculture, education and trade.”
