EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini stressed that while the European Union viewed Iran’s behavior across the Middle East as “very concerning”, the European bloc will continue to take actions to preserve the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran.
“Regional dynamics are critical for peace in Syria and we discussed in this context also Iran’s regional behavior, which is a very serious concern for all of us that we need to address. We discussed this quite in detail. At the same time, our work continues to preserve the nuclear deal. / Our work continues with the member states and other partners in the world to make sure that Iranians and Iranian citizens can benefit from the economic relations with, not only the European Union member states, but also others in the world,” Federica Mogherini said.
Mogherini justified the European Union’s ongoing persistence vis a vis the nuclear agreement with Iran, by citing a report published by the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, which once again certified Iran’s continued compliance to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action – the technical term of the multilateral nuclear deal with Iran. That said, the EU Foreign Policy Chief did not discuss demands by the United States to fix the flaws of the nuclear deal, nor did she refer to the latest threats voiced by Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency ‘to resume its nuclear activities at a higher level than ever before’.
