A parking garage under construction collapsed in Tel Aviv yesterday, killing at least three and multiple injuries in light-to-moderate condition. “It’s a construction site of an underground big parking lot that the floors have collapsed down from the ground level underground. About 25 construction workers were at the sight. Twenty-one of them were already rescued, most of them are lightly-to-moderately injured. Three that were trapped are already dug out and went out from the rubbles by Magen David Adom paramedics. They are evacuated to four hospitals in the Tel Aviv area, there are still three construction workers at the sight underground under the rubbles. Our paramedics are next to them with other rescue workers of the firefighters and pretty soon we hope that we will be able to extract them out of the collapsed building and continue the medical treatment to them,” said Yonatan Ygodoviski, Intl. Relations Director – Magen David Adom.
Police launched an investigation into the incident, as the cause of the collapse is still in question. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the site, during which he stressed that all is done to locate the remaining people trapped under the debris. “I received a briefing now from the Home Front commander, Magen David Adom (Medical) and the police commissioner. The rescue teams are working diligently and with haste in a bid to locate and rescue the trapped with intensive efforts, very professionally challenging. Of course we extend wishes of recovery to all those wounded,” said Netanyahu.
The incident occurred in the Tel Aviv neighborhood of Ramat Hahayal adjacent to a hospital and buildings housing high-tech offices and restaurants.
