Loud explosions were reportedly heard in Syria’s Mezzeh military airfield, which is located West of the capital, Damascus. While the location of the reported explosion was subject to a number of Israeli attacks in recent years, the official Syrian SANA news agency claimed the airfield was not subject to an Israeli strike, but rather, the explosion occured as a result of an electric short. Nevertheless, the Lebanese Al-Mayadeen news agency – which is affiliated with the Iranian-backed Hezbollah, an ally of the Assad regime, attributed responsibility for the explosion to an Israeli strike. The al-Mayadeen report was confirmed by several Syrian sources, who said that loud explosions were caused by missiles fired by Israel and the sound of Syrian anti-aircraft projectiles. The Israeli military did not respond to TV7’s request for comment.
