Regional tensions continue to run high over Jerusalem’s aspired bid to assert its sovereignty over territories in the internationally disputed West Bank of the Jordan river, including the Biblical Districts of Judea and Samaria as well as the Jordan Valley.
Palestinian media is reporting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu telephoned Jordanian King Abdullah II to discuss prospects of the annexation bid in accordance with the U.S. peace initiative. Jordanian officials claim the Hashemite Monarch not only refused to accept the Israeli leader’s call, but also instructed his staff to postpone a meeting with Israel’s Alternate Premier and Defense Minister Benny Gantz believed to have been slated to take place in Amman.
While Jordanian authorities did not immediately respond to TV7’s request for comment, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Bureau in Jerusalem quickly denied the report.
