An exchange of fire in Syria between U.S. forces and militants loyal to regime forces erupted in the northeastern al-Hasakah province.
The incident occurred when an American convoy was abruptly stopped at a pro-regime checkpoint in the village of Kherbat Amo, east of Qamishli city. After then coming under fire, the U.S. troops shot back in self-defense.
One Syrian militant identified as a member of the National Defense Forces was killed and another injured in the clash.
A local source reported that the situation dissipated after “Russian forces arrived at the scene,” although a video posted by Syrian state television only showed a stationary Russian convoy several meters away from the purported-incident.
There were no reported injuries to either the American or Russian forces.
