Funeral processions were held in Baghdad for members of the Popular Mobilization Forces – who were killed in separate devastating explosions, attributed to Israel.
pro-Iranian Iraqi lawmaker Ahmed Al-Asadi claimed that the attacks were the result of American and Israeli operations, saying: ”The aggression was carried out by the Zionist entity (Israel) and by the powers which support it. The aggression, which took place in the daylight with the presence of the International coalition flight American aircrafts, means that these crimes and acts are done under the cover of America and colonialism. It is a clear-cut message, so the Iraqi people should be aware of such crimes and the Iraqi stance should be unified.”
It is important to note that despite the allegations, neither Israel nor the United States were behind most of the attacks in Iraq. According to an informed intelligence source who spoke to TV7 on condition of anonymity, Israel was responsible for a strike against an Iranian installation mid-July. The Americans were informed of the operation, yet they were not involved. The source further indicated that the latest explosions in Iraq were not conducted by Israel.
The U.S. Defense Department announced that its forces were not involved in any of the recent attacks on ammunition storage facilities belonging to Iran in Iraq. In a statement released by the Pentagon, Washington underscored that it continues to “support Iraqi sovereignty and have repeatedly spoken out against any potential actions by external actors inciting violence in Iraq.” Furthermore, the Defense Department announced that it is cooperating with Iraqi authorities on an investigation of the deadly attacks.
