The IDF has instructed local authorities to open bomb-shelters across the Golan Heights region last night, that after spotting preparations by Iranian forces in Syria to fire missiles at toward the Jewish state. The military instructions came minutes before President Trump announced the U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 international nuclear deal, a move that has stirred concern about a possible regional flare-up.
In addition to the order to prepare Israel’s northern bomb shelters, the IDF called up reservists from aerial defense, Home Front Command and intelligence units. The decision to do so is unprecedented during the seven-year-old civil war in Syria, in which Israel is formally neutral, even-though it has carried out cross-border strikes at suspected deployments by Iranian forces supporting Damascus and arms transfers to Tehran’s Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah.
