Israel to resume embassy operations in Jordan as crisis ends

Jordanian State Minister for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani announced last night, that “Israel expressed regret over an incident at the embassy in Amman” in which two Jordanians were killed last July, “and over the killing of a Jordanian judge at Allenby Bridge,” which is one of two border crossings between the two countries. The two incidents, particularly the one at the embassy in July, precipitated a diplomatic crisis between Amman and Jerusalem. The minister said that the Jordanian Foreign Ministry had received an official letter from the Israeli Foreign Ministry that stated that additional proceedings regarding the incident at the Israeli embassy in Jordan would be taken. Among other things, compensation to the families of the judge and the two people who were killed at the embassy was discussed.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the crisis with Jordan was over. The Prime Minister’s Bureau issued a statement saying that both countries had reached an agreement, that will resume operations of Israel’s embassy to Jordan immediately. The statement further read: “Israel ascribes great importance to the strategic relationship with Jordan,” and vows to ” keep investigating the material that was gathered ” regarding the unfortunate incidents, and “will make a decision (on the matter) soon.” Meanwhile, an Israeli political official confirmed to TV7 that Israel had expressed regret.
