Egypt: Palestinian issue not the reason for regional instability

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry hosted in Cairo his Jordanian and Palestinian counterparts, Ayman Safadi and Riyad al-Malki, during which the three top diplomats sought to coordinate their positions in advance of a scheduled visit to the region by a US delegation, including envoys Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt. During their meeting, the Egyptian Foreign minister emphasized that the Arab peace initiative of 2002, a regional proposal aimed at ending the Israeli-Arab conflict, was still on the agenda, while emphasizing Egypt’s position in which the Palestinian issue was not the reason for regional instability. The Jordanian foreign minister, however, took a more aggressive stance toward the Jewish state, warning that the situation across the region would remain volatile so long as the Palestinian problem was unresolved. The Palestinian foreign minister, took the opportunity to condemn Israel’s ongoing construction policy on lands the Palestinians demand will be part of their future state under any final status agreement, accusing Israel of trying to quash the two-state solution through its policies.
