Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman met with his American counterpart, Defense Secretary James Mattis, at the Pentagon. During their meeting, the two top defense officials discussed their shared commitment to stability in the Middle East, as well as mutual security challenges. Lieberman’s visit occurs as US President Donald Trump is following through on his promised shift in US policy toward the Jewish state, after years of friction between former US President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. As part of the policy, Washington seeks to align its efforts together with Jerusalem in confronting regional challenges.
