A Turkish man attempted to attack the Israeli embassy in Ankara, but Turkish police stationed outside of the Israeli mission shot a wounded the assailant, who reportedly wielded a knife while shouting Islamist slogans. According to an initial investigation, the would-be attacker, a 41-year-old from the central Turkish city of Konya, acted alone and had no links to a terror organization. Turkey faces multiple security threats, including Islamic State militants blamed for bombings in Istanbul and elsewhere, and Kurdish militants following the resumption last year of a three-decade insurgency in the mainly Kurdish southeast of the country.
